One of the best things about Star Wars is it’s expanded universe that has been tapped into in the wake of not having any films to watch. The EU took off in popularity in the late 80s and early 90s after Return of the Jedi left a void in our lives and it’s ben filling in gaps every since then.
Even dating back to the early days of the films, other forms of medium have helped expand the Star Wars story and one of the most original forms was comic books. Marvel once had control of the Star Wars comic line but it lost it to Dark Horse in the 90s.
But with the sale of the Star Wars brand to Disney — who also own Marvel — a comic reunion was inevitable and has been confirmed as happening.
The Walt Disney Company’s Lucasfilm Ltd. and Marvel Entertainment are joining forces to bring new Star Wars adventures to readers across the galaxy, with Marvel granted exclusive rights to create and publish Star Wars comics and graphic novels beginning in 2015.
This is awesome news for fans of the old comics and its great news for those who love digging into the expanded universe. While not every comic will be a hit and most will tie in to the television shows and the films, we at least have another way to take in Star Wars and the saturation is much appreciated by fans.
