Simon Pegg and J.J. Abrams are no strangers, so it was not much of a surprise when a rumor hit the internet the other day stating that he was spotted on the set of Star Wars: Episode 7. Fanboys and fangirls every where took to social media to come together in excitement at the possibility of the self professed “Star Wars geek” joining the cast. Pegg took to Twitter this afternoon to help clear up the confusion.
Pegg will be voicing C-3PO on a special Star Wars themed episode of Disney’s Phoneas and Ferb which airs on July 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on the Disney Channel.
I suppose that’s not a flat out no, but I think it’s probably a safe bet to say that being as close of a friend to Abrams that Pegg is, and Abrams knowing what a fan of the Saga that Pegg is, he probably invited him on to the set for an exclusive tour. Which is pretty much exactly what Pegg describes in a new interview with Sky Movies. Pegg discusses more of what we already know, such as Episode 7 being shot on film and the use of practical effects but it’s still pretty cool hearing it from a co-fan who has gotten a look behind the curtain.
If the idea of Simon Pegg voicing Goldenrod doesn’t entice you enough, it’s worth noting that following the repeat showing of the episode on Monday, August 4 at 7:30 p.m, there will be a extended preview for the upcoming series, Star Wars Rebels.
