Disney announced a new animated special featuring the popular show Phineas and Ferb at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, and almost a year later, they have released the premiere date.
The special will air on July 26 at 9 p.m. on the Disney Channel, and it appears they are going the original trilogy route.
Phineas and Ferb: Star Wars will premiere Saturday, July 26, at 9 p.m. Set a few summers ago in a galaxy far, far away, the special finds Phineas and Ferb in a parallel universe during Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.
This isn’t the first animated special that Disney has aired on its networks, as they have released Lego Star Wars specials on Disney XD, and an all-new animated series, Star Wars: Rebels, will air this fall.
Simon Pegg will be a voice actor, as well as Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman of the popular show MythBusters. The episode will also feature Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbaca, C-3PO, and R2-D2, according to THR.
Many Star Wars fans have dreaded the idea of Disney putting their stamp on the saga, and specials like this will only add fuel to that fire. It is important to remember that Star Wars isn’t always about adding canon or being serious, as the galaxy can be fun at times, too (see The Holiday Special).
Here is a teaser for the special:
