Out of all the Star Wars characters in the known Galaxy; who deserves their own stand alone film the most?

Right, so really easy is this one, the following Star Wars characters that truly deserve their own film without a shadow of a doubt are.

The Droid from Empire Strikes Back, detailing his time scanning the planet Hoth before Han Solo shot him. Next, Doctor Cornelius Evazan and his adventures that led him to pick a fight with the last known Jedi Knight in the Mos Eisley Cantina from A New Hope; then we have…

More from Star Wars Characters

Ok, so this is obviously not the list of Star Wars characters that deserve their own film. I just wanted to have a little fun before getting to the actual list.

But being serious, did you know that guy from A New Hope whose friend had his arm cut off by Obi-Wan in the Cantina scene is a doctor?

Honestly, that is no joke. Before achieving the honor of having death sentences in 12 different systems, he was a doctor.

Anyway, back to what you came here for. The 10 Star Wars characters who deserve their own stand alone film.

Some ground rules before we get started.

No. 1: This list takes into account all known Star Wars characters. Meaning this is not restricted to just the movies. We will have characters from the TV series, books, comics, video games, etc. If a character is connected to Star Wars they can be considered.

No. 2: This is not in any particular order. It was hard enough deciding who made the top-10, never mind ranking them. However, if you would like to rank them, feel free to do so, and leave a comment with your ranking below.

No. 3: If you love this list and think I have it spot on, great, let me know. If you think I am completely wrong and just outright bonkers, also, let me know. I would love to hear about it and discuss who you think should make the list and why.

And, that’s it. So sit back, enjoy, and get ready to meet the 10 Star Wars characters who deserve their own stand alone film.

10: Saw Gerrera – Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Played by Forest Whitaker in the first ever stand alone Star Wars film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Saw Gerrera ended up being a bit of a disappointment.

Rogue One had a lot of good going for it, but one thing it fell heavily down on was its character development. To be fair, they did have a ton of new characters to introduce. So I think they were always going to fall down on that part, but they could have done a bit better; especially when it came to Saw Gerrera.

Mainly because we had already been introduced to Saw Gerrera in the animated series The Clone Wars. Both Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker had been mentors to him during the Clone Wars and he soon became a leader of his own group of extreme rebels.

So obviously, we all expected a lot from him. We thought we might get some really cool scenes of him and his group taking on the Empire. Maybe coming and saving the day? You know, something like that. Instead, they blew him up. Leaving us a bit annoyed, well, actually more than a bit annoyed, but I have to keep this PG.

However, a standalone film centered on Saw Gerrera would easily make up for all that.

Set around the time he formed his group of rebels and how they came to earn their reputation, or during the time Obi-Wan and Anakin mentored him would be amazing.

How he formed his rebels would probably deliver the better storyline but during the time he was mentored means fans get more Obi-Wan so it is a tough one to call. What would you prefer?

9: Delta Squad – Star Wars: Republic Commando

Anyone who has played the 2005 video game Star Wars: Republic Commando or anyone who is huge Clone Soldiers fan is going to know who the Delta Squad is.

A crack troop of clone commandos, Delta Squad were pretty much the Navy SEALs or SAS equivalent of the Clone Soldiers. Introduced in the Star Wars: Republic Commando video game they came into canon and were featured in the Clone Wars animated series.

Ultimately, they were the ones who were called in when they needed a specialist team to take on the most dangerous and high-profile missions. Four clone soldiers made up Delta Squad, RC-1138, RC-1140, RC-1207 and RC-1262, or Boss, Fixer, Sev, and Scorch.

It’s pretty much a no-brainer why a Star Wars standalone movie featuring Delta Squad is deserved. Not only would we be going back to the prequel days of the Clone Wars which everyone enjoyed. I am of course talking about The Clone Wars animated series, not the movie. But having the opportunity to have a live action version would be something welcomed by many Star Wars fans.

Now, to be honest, it wouldn’t have to be about Delta Squad. The stand alone film could be about any other Clone Trooper squad. There are plenty to choose from, it is just Delta Squad jumps out the most for me. But there is also:

  • Aiwha Squad
  • Kilo Squad
  • Theta Squad
  • Gamma Squad
  • Omega Squad

There are plenty of possibilities to choose from, heck if they went ahead and made a Star Wars movie about Rex or Fives I would be happy. Ultimately, a standalone Star Wars movie about the missions the Clone Soldiers carried out is a win.

8: Galem Marek – Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Another character that will be familiar to those who play the Star Wars video games, Galem Marek. Codenamed Starkiller, Marek was introduced to us in the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed video game and was trained in the ways of the Dark Side of the force.

He was also Darth Vader’s secret apprentice, in case I forgot to mention that part.

Just that line alone is more than enough reason to make a stand alone movie about Marek. Especially for those who are only familiar with the Star Wars movie. I can just hear them now;

“Darth Vader had a secret apprentice? What?!?! Why did I not know about this? Please tell me more.”

There are a lot more reasons other than being Darth Vader’s apprentice to make a standalone movie about the character though. His story overall is a fascinating one.

He was raised at a young age in the ways of the Dark Side, hidden away and kept secret by Vader for fear the Emperor would learn of his existence. Marek was used as Vader’s personal assassin then betrayed by Vader himself. The story of Galem Marek has a bit of everything for every Star Wars fan.

And that is all before we get into the awesome action-packed scenes there would be in it. If you are all about Lightsabers then you will want this standalone film.

And then there is Vader, who would have to be a major part of the movie and you know what, you can’t go wrong by adding in more Vader into a film.

However, although it would be amazing to see Marek get a standalone film, it should be pointed out that he is not classed as canon. There are also many other characters in the Star Wars universe who are and should be considered way before Marek ever is.

7: Ahsoka Tano – Star Wars: The Clone Wars

The padawan of Anakin Skywalker, a.k.a the opposite of Galem Marek in the previous slide; Ahsoka Tano first appeared on the Star Wars scene in the animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Ahsoka was awesome from the moment she was introduced. She easily kicked butt wielding her two lightsabers and anyone who is familiar with the animated series can vouch that she was a worthy padawan for Anakin Skywalker.

Anakin was a hot-headed Jedi; Ahsoka was a hot-headed padawan. The two matched up perfectly.

However, her time in Star Wars: The Clone Wars ended both terribly, and perfectly. After being kicked out of the Jedi Order for a crime she didn’t commit, it all looked pretty bleak for Ahsoka. However, her name was cleared at the last-minute and the Jedi Order was willing to welcome her back.

Ahsoka declined the offer; feeling betrayed that everyone, despite everything that they went through together on the battlefield. Despite all her pleas of innocence, they believed she committed the crime. Hurt by this knowledge, she left for good.

A tragic end, one that I am sure shed a few tears among some fans (I know my daughter bawled her eyes out) but ultimately perfect. Why? Because it meant she escaped Order 66 and the mass slaughter of the Jedi.

Ahsoka later resurfaced in the Star Wars Rebels series, confirming that she did indeed survive Order 66. She was still kicking as much butt as she was doing before and even went head-to-head with Darth Vader.

More importantly, she returned neither Jedi nor Sith. Many believe she returned as Gray Jedi, a balance of the two, but that is up for debate. This could easily be where a stand alone movie could fit in.

There is a ton of time in-between her exit from The Clone Wars and her return in Rebels. A lot obviously happened with her character in between that time as well to explore. Heck, you might get more than one movie out of her. It could give fans a lot of much-needed answers that they have debated over.

It’s a no-brainer really.

6: Mara Jade – Star Wars: Heir to the Empire

Okay, so we are getting pretty close to the last-five on our list. But before we get to it, let’s talk about Mara Jade and why she deserves her own Star Wars film.

Now if you have never read any of the Star Wars novels or comics, then you are really not going to have a clue who Mara Jade is. And that’s fine by the way. I am not judging in any way, I am just pointing out that you can know Star Wars inside and out. However, if your knowledge comes from the movies and TV series, you will not know anything about her.

That is because, despite a lot of fans wanting Mara Jade to be introduced into the films and TV series, it has never happened. Not even a subtle whisper. This is a real shame because her storyline is just fascinating.

Mara Jade was first introduced in Timothy Zahn’s Star Wars: Heir to the Empire novel. Mara was trained from birth to be an Emperor’s Hand, an uber-secret organization of Force-wielders who took their orders from Emperor Palpatine.

Upon Palpatine’s death in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, he sent Mara a telepathic message ordering her to kill Luke Skywalker. She of course never succeeded in doing this, but her storyline did stay closely entwined with Luke Skywalker.

While originally growing up and learning the Dark Side of the Force, she ended up becoming a Jedi herself and rose to the ranks of Jedi Master. She fought alongside Luke on many occasions and fought on her own as well. She ultimately did a lot of good throughout the countless stories she has appeared in, despite originally being the main protagonist when she was first introduced.

Mara and Luke also ended up getting married and having a child together. This was something many fans were happy to learn about. Luke finally got some form of peace and happiness after all he had been through. Many hope this will happen eventually in the movies or TV series with Mark Hamill himself even leaning towards this idea.

How you would do this, or more importantly where you would do this in the Star Wars timeline is a difficult one. Do you set up a live action movie based on all the stories, so in-between episode VI and VII? If so, how will it end considering Luke went into exile? Or do you do it after episode VIII and do some flashbacks to fill in the gaps? And then how much of the story do you stick to?

Mara Jade’s story is a fascinating one, but how you would make it connect to the current Star Wars movies is a bit of an issue. Really the only one I can imagine working, without causing issues with the existing movies, is her time as an Emperor’s hand.

5: Darth Maul – Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace

Right, into the final five characters and up first we have Darth Maul from Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.

Now we all have our certain feelings about the prequel movies, and especially The Phantom Menace. But we are not going to get into some Jar Jar bashing here. Although he deserves it, we are going to talk about the best part of the prequels, as well as the most underused part of the prequels: Darth Maul.

A character that was so epic, and yet was gone so fast, that we couldn’t even say; “Finally! They got something right with this movie!”

You know a character is pretty much a solid favourite within the fandom when he gets cut in half, falls down what looks like a never-ending bottomless pit in the movie, but ends up surviving in the animated Clone Wars series.

He becomes even more cooler than he was before, seeks out revenge on his arch nemesis Obi-Wan Kenobi, only to get owned by his former master. Maul looks to be once again dead, only to then be brought back in Star Wars Rebels.

Once again, even cooler and hungrier for revenge. This time on both Jedi and Sith. It just doesn’t seem to matter what happened to him, he is loved by the fandom, the writers just won’t let him die…until he duels Old Ben Kenobi, and then Old Ben cuts him down as if buttering some toast.

Sorry for the spoilers by the way.

The thing is, if you never kept up to date with the TV series, Darth Maul was gone way back in the first movie and it just seemed like such a waste. Now if you have seen Solo: A Star Wars movie, you will know that there is Darth Maul connection.

I realize not everyone might have seen it yet, the Blu-Ray/DVD is still not out, so I won’t go into any specific details. But again, if you haven’t seen any of the TV series and followed Maul’s storyline, this was a very confusing moment.

This is where a Darth Maul stand alone film could work. A live-action event of what occurred on the TV series to fill in the gaps.

Another option for a stand alone film is how Maul became Darth Maul. When Maul was introduced the Jedi believed the Sith were extinct. So how did Palpatine manage to train him unnoticed? What might he and Maul have to have done to make sure nobody learned of their secret?

4: Darth Vader – Star Wars: A New Hope

For a very long time, I never thought I needed a Darth Vader stand alone film. However, that is no longer the case.

You see Darth Vader was a character that never really needed to be on the screen much to leave a lasting impression. It was actually one of the things that made his character so interesting from the moment he was introduced in Star Wars: A New Hope. He was barely ever on-screen, but when he was, you knew something amazing was about to happen.

This is why I never thought we would need a stand alone film. I always thought that if we got more Vader we would lose some of the appeal that made him so great.

However, what changed my mind were a couple of things. First of all, for all the movie buffs, I refer you to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Now just try to tell me that end scene with Vader dropping Rebel soldiers as if he was swatting flies didn’t leave you gobsmacked. I honestly sat there in the theatres in complete shock and awe at what I just watched after that scene.

Now imagine that, but in full movie form.

Still think it won’t work? Not sure if there is enough material to work with?

Then I refer you to the comic books about Darth Vader. If you have never picked up a Star Wars comic before, I highly recommended any one of the Darth Vader comics. They are beyond a doubt, packed from start to finish, with jaw-dropping storylines exactly like the ending to Rogue One. You could pretty much pick any one of them and turn it into a stand alone film.

3: Grand Admiral Thrawn – Star Wars: Heir to the Empire

Introduced at the same time as Mara Jade in Timothy Zahn’s Star Wars: Heir to the Empire novel, Grand Admiral Thrawn, unlike Mara, has had some screen time on Star Wars already.

Popping up in the Star Wars Rebels series, this is where we got our first glimpse of how truly fearsome and effective a villain he was on-screen. And unlike all the previous villains that had gone up against our hero rebels, Thrawn was always a step ahead, ready to crush them with a force they had never seen before. Some fans consider Thrawn an even bigger villain than Vader and his portrayal on Rebels certainly showed this.

Thing is, Thrawn was first introduced in the Timothy Zahn novel which is set after the Return of the Jedi movie, where both Palpatine and Vader are now dead. Rebels is set sometime between Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One.

The reason I bring this up is because the latest novel featuring Thrawn by Timothy Zahn, Star Wars: Thrawn: Alliances, focuses on the relationship between Vader and Thrawn. And pretty much the two don’t get along, as in at all.

So you have this character, who is highly loved in the fandom, considered to be on par with Vader and who doesn’t actually get on with Vader, despite being on the same side as him. Thrawn was introduced after Vader’s death, but actually connects all the way back to the earlier timeline.

There are potentially several standalone film possibilities here.

You can introduce a Thrawn stand alone film sometime after Episode VII, maybe after the story of Star Wars: Heir to the Empire.?This could then lead to connections to the newer Star Wars trilogies and maybe even lead to a Mara Jade stand alone film.

If not that, you can go back in the timeline and create a movie showing the tension between Vader and Thrawn. You get more Vader, an automatic win for Star Wars fans. Then maybe you could connect it to Rogue One, or something like that?

Or just make up a completely new story that doesn’t connect in any way? Heck, I would still go and watch it because it is Thrawn. That alone is enough. The books detailing Thrawn have been a huge success. There is no reason the films would not be as well.

2: Obi-Wan Kenobi – Star Wars: A New Hope

We are into the final two characters that deserve their own stand alone film now. I am sure you were all expecting the famous Obi-Wan Kenobi to pop up at some point on this list. So here he is.

Introduced to us at the very beginning of Star Wars, Obi-Wan has been one of the most featured characters in the franchise. He was in every film of the original trilogy and was in all the prequels. Obi-Wan was a major part of The Cone Wars animated series, he popped up in Rebels and even his voice featured in The Force Awakens.

I would need to double-check, but I am pretty certain only R2-D2 and C-3PO who have been featured in more Star Wars films.

However despite all that, we have still not had a stand alone Obi-Wan Kenobi film, despite fans asking for one. Before Rogue One or Solo was even thought of, fans have asked for an Obi-Wan Kenobi film, but have still not got one.

Why?

The only thing I can really think of is whoever the big wigs are who make the decisions are a bit unsure of how to do it. Do they make a film about Obi-Wan as a padawan with Qui-Gon Jin? Or do they follow the story of Obi-Wan training Anakin? Or how about the time when Obi-Wan was a General in the Clone Wars? What about while he was on Tatooine watching over Luke?

Obi-Wan has a lot of possibilities for a stand alone. That’s only a small amount I have named above. This is why I think they haven’t made one yet. They are just not sure what story to focus on.

However, if we are all being friendly and honest, I would suggest they do not make a stand alone film of him watching over Luke on Tatooine. Watching a film about a man who lives by himself and spends most of his free time watching over a child as he grows up might come off a bit creepy. Just saying.

1: Boba Fett – Star Wars: The Empire Strikes

Last up is the famous bounty hunter Boba Fett.

A character who was introduced in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes and featured in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

Boba Fett, who has a total of five lines in the films (and that includes the one of him screaming when he was eating by the Sarlacc). He had less than 10 minutes of screen time (and a large part of that included his ship flying around).

No, he didn’t exactly have the best introduction into the universe, as Darth Vader just pointed at him and said “No Disintegration!” Frankly, he was someone who didn’t do much besides looking around and looking especially mean doing it.

Yet, we fell in love with him. We all adored him and wanted to be him and ultimately want to know more about him.

Because of this, we met his father Jango Fett in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and we also met young kid Boba in the Clone Wars series.

Oh, and guess what? Boba isn’t dead!

We are the ones who made this character so popular. I mean, he barely spoke, barely did anything, got pushed over by a blind man and got eaten by a sandworm. Our passion for Boba Fest made Disney bosses decide that he should survive his ordeal with the Sarlacc. How exactly I am not sure, but he did.

Watch your favorite shows on fuboTV: Watch over 67 live sports and entertainment channels with a 7-day FREE trial!

Regardless though, we like Boba and we want more of him. So a stand alone film is what we require. Considering he is one of the most feared bounty hunters in the Galaxy, they certainly wouldn’t be short of any material to make one either. They could probably make several films about his bounty hunter adventures, in all honesty.

So out of all the suggestions made today, which Star Wars stand alone film would you like to see created first? Have you got your own suggestions that you would prefer? Drop a comment below and share your Star Wars thoughts.
