The Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award honors creators with a track record of producing top-notch motion pictures and Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy is set to receive it.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy will receive an honorary Academy Award for her decades of work as a successful film producer.

The Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award honors “creative producers whose bodies of work reflect a consistently high quality of motion picture production.”

She will be the first female ever to receive the honor.

Regardless of what you think about the Star Wars films she has produced in the past several years, her seemingly endless body of work is more than enough to prove she deserves such an honor.

She first worked with Steven Spielberg on Raiders of the Lost Arc. Kennedy went on to serve as the producer of notable films such as The Goonies, Jurassic Park, E.T., Back to the Future, Schindler’s List, and many, many more.

She has been nominated for eight previous Academy Awards. In 1982, she co-founded Ambien Entertainment. She also co-founded The Kennedy/Marshall Company with Frank Marshall, who will accept the award alongside her.

Kennedy assumed her role at Lucasfilm in 2012 and has since produced two Star Wars spinoff films (Rogue One and Solo) in addition to The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. She is currently producing the yet-to-be-titled Star Wars Episode IX.

Despite rumors that she’s soon to step down, it’s hard to say whether Kennedy plans on being a part of the future of Star Wars. She told The Star Wars Show  she and the team were “talking about the next ten years of Star Wars stories” back in 2017.
