Taika Waititi will be co-writing and directing a new Star Wars movie. Here are some characters that we hope to see make an appearance in his film.
Taika Waititi will be the latest director to take on a new Star Wars film. He already has experienced in the universe having directed an episode of The Mandalorian.
Waititi has a knack for infusing his films with plenty of humor while also making them extremely entertaining and thought-provoking. He’ll be a great addition to the Star Wars universe and his movie should be highly anticipated.
At this point, we don’t have any idea what era this film will be taking place in. We don’t know if it is in an existing era that has been previously addressed or if it will be in a new era that will have all new characters. If his film does take place in an existing era, here are five characters that would be great fits with his directing style and ones we would hope would make an appearance in his film.

Hondo Ohnaka
Hondo Ohnaka would be a perfect character not just to appear in a Taika Waititi-directed Star Wars movie but to be the featured character.
Waititi’s strength as a director is his use of action mixed with humor. No Star Wars character embodies those two traits more than Hondo Ohnaka. Ohnaka was one of the best characters created by Dave Filoni inThe Clone Wars and went on to have more memorable moments in the Star Wars: Rebels series.
He’s a dirty pirate with no real allegiances. He loves to make money, and get the best out of any deal he is a part of and will do anything to come out on top. He’s worked with the Sith, with the Jedi, and even fought against both at times. He truly cares only about himself but is still extremely likable due to his charisma and sharp wit.
Waititi would have a ton of fun writing lines for this character and with Ohnaka being around for a long period of time in the Star Wars universe, his film could be set during the Clone Wars, during the Rebel Alliance era, or even after the sequel films. There’s a lot of ways to go, and perhaps the entire movie could be about his life, and that would be extremely entertaining to watch.

Poe Dameron
Poe Dameron is one of the wittier characters in the sequel trilogy. He’s chock full of machismo and is quick with a sharp retort whether it be to his friends or enemies. His personality would be a great fit with the also sharp-witted Waititi.
A Poe Dameron film could be extremely interesting. It could be set before the sequels and detail Poe’s life growing up with parents who served the New Republic. It could then delve into his time as a spice runner and Zorii Bliss’ gang, which will be a new book coming in August.
Waititi could have some fun putting Poe in crazy adventures involving not just the acquiring, but also the dealing and delivery of his spice shipments. This would also give fans more Babu Frik and there isn’t anyone on the planet who doesn’t want to see more of Babu.

Lando Calrissian
One of the best parts about the Solo movie was Donald Glover’s portrayal of Lando Calrissian. He absolutely nailed this role and was able to not just emulate Billy Dee Williams, but also put his own spin on the character.
Lando is extremely smooth and just oozes cool. He’d be a great fit in a Taiki Waititi film with his blend of humor, and smooth talk. Lando also has a plethora of old adventures that he’s been on that would be perfect fodder for a movie or series of movies. This film could even be done in a way that could feature Billy Dee Williams and Glover playing the role in the same movie.
Williams could be old Lando telling his adventures to perhaps Jannah and then in flashbacks we see the adventures he was on. Lando is one of the more fun and charismatic characters in Star Wars, and pairing him with an equally fun and charismatic director and writer like Waititi would be an amazing combination and one that would surely sell a bunch of tickets.

IG-11
Waititi voiced this character in the Mandalorian so it makes perfect sense for him to show up again in a film directed by him.
IG-11 was a merciless bounty hunter who formed an uneasy alliance with Mando in the premiere episode of The Mandalorian.
SPOILERS if anyone hasn’t watched The Mandalorian yet, but IG-11 is shot by Mando when he’s about to terminate Baby Yoda. He then is repurposed by Kuill and becomes a sort of nanny to Baby Yoda, ultimately sacrificing himself to save the group and allow them to escape from the clutches of Moff Gideon. Despite being a droid with no human emotion Waititi was able to bring plenty of humanistic traits to this character and really flesh him out.
IF IG-11 appears in a Waititi directed film, it would have to be set prior to the events in The Mandalorian. No matter what the plot of the film is, it would be fairly easy to incorporate a bounty hunter like IG-11 into the story. Fans would love to see this extremely serious and dangerous assassin droid on the screen again, and perhaps a reason can be given as to why he’s so willing and almost eager to self destruct.

Bendu
Bendu was a giant horned beast who was a powerful wielder of the Force. He took no allegiance to the light or dark side of the Force instead, choosing to live in the gray area in the middle. He was a bit of a mentor to both Kanan Jarrus and Ezra Bridger in Star Wars Rebels and even passed knowledge unto Ahsoka Tano.
He talks in riddles and often lets out a hearty laugh after speaking. He loves asking questions as much as he’s giving answers and holds many secrets of the nature of the Force. Bendu is a character who could be available to use in just about any time frame this film is set in, so there are no real limits as to when he could be used. Fans would love to see this character appear on the big screen and Waititi could be the perfect director to bring him to life.
Waititi has experience writing for non-human characters. A couple of his best appeared in Thor: Ragnarok. Korg and his buddy Miek were a couple of scene sealers who injected a lot of fun and humor to that film. While Bendu isn’t exactly comic material, he’s a fun character nonetheless and could really benefit and come to life with Waititi’s wit giving him lines.
