Taika Waititi has already had his hands in the Star Wars universe with The Mandalorian. With a full length Star Wars film helmed by Waititi on the way, the possibilities are endless for his newest chapter in the saga.
StarWars.com announced this week Taika Waititi will direct and co-write a feature length Star Wars film. Waititi has been one of the hottest names in Hollywood over the past half decade culminating in an Oscar for his screenplay of 2019’s Jojo Rabbit.
The details about this film are unclear. It has not yet been specified whether the film will be a single installment or the beginning of a new saga altogether. Regardless of the content, Waititi’s reputation speaks for itself both in the Star Wars universe and beyond.
With the recent conclusion of the Skywalker saga, the possibilities are endless for Waitit’s new film. For a franchise that has been around for over 40 years, there are corners of the galaxy that have endless untold stories just waiting to be told. This new film could explore any era before, during or after the Skywalker saga. This could be unchartered territory for Star Wars but with Waititi at the helm, the story is likely to be a hit among fans of all ages.
With that being sad, here are just a few ideas for Taika Waititi’s new Star Wars film.

Earlier this year, the mysterious Project Luminous was finally revealed as a series of books and comics surrounding the High Republic Era in Star Wars. Taking place roughly two centuries before The Phantom Menace, the High Republic will reportedly see the Jedi at the height of their power.
While there has been no official talk of a film just yet, it would not be surprising for the High Republic Era to culminate in a film for fans to see their favorite characters from the various books and comics on screen.
The prospect itself is tempting to think about, as we have not seen much of the Jedi at their most powerful. The closest look fans got into the larger Jedi Order on the big screen was during the Battle of Geonosis in Attack of the Clones. While there was certainly plenty of Jedi action in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV series, nothing compares to a live action big screen experience, especially when it comes to the galaxy far far away.
Star Wars has always been about fun and there is no doubt that the High Republic Era will be any different. Waititi could certainly insert his unique brand of humor and storytelling in ways that could make a High Republic film stand out among the ever growing catalogue of Star Wars films.

When Solo was released in May of 2018, it was the first Star Wars movie to ever be considered a flop at the box office. This is, of course, only compared to other Star Wars films which have done significantly better at the box office than Solo.
Despite the film’s divisive reception, its ending laid the groundwork for a possible sequel. Han Solo and Chewbacca raced off to look for work with Jabba the Hutt and Q’ira was en route to meet with Crimson Dawn leader and former Sith Lord, Maul.
One thing that set Solo apart from the rest of the Star Wars films is that it was perhaps the funniest Star Wars movie. While all Star Wars movies have elements of comedy in them, it is usually not the predominant tone in the film in that way it was with Solo.
Waititi’s style of directing would fit perfectly into the continuing story of Han Solo. Seeing the young pilot’s transition into a smuggler for the Hutts would be an exciting and hilarious adventure and would most likely leave a better legacy for Solo .
Although this outcome is unlikely to happen, a Solo sequel directed by someone with a comedic reputation like Waititi would likely be a home run among fans and critics alike.

Fans have already been teased with the happenings in the underbelly of the capital of the Republic (and later Empire). During the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, a four-episode arc featuring Ashoka along with Trace and Rafa Martez gave a glimpse into the life of those who live below the surface.
Attack of the Clones also featured a short peak into civilian life on Coruscant in an early scene where Anakin and Obi-Wan are searching for bounty hunter Zam Wesell in a crowded bar in the lower levels.
Other than those two small entries, we do not know much about the day-to-day happenings of Coruscant or much about the planet as a whole. The planet was described in The Phantom Menace as being one giant city. With that being said, there is certainly no shortage of stories to tell.
There was a video game that was supposed to feature this very setting entitled “Star Wars: 1313” but the game was canceled in 2013 after Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm.
Exploring this area of Star Wars would bring a sense of novelty and depth to the already massive franchise. Fans are familiar with the Jedi Order by now and while those stories are compelling in their own right, a closer look into Coruscant’s regular inhabitants could give viewers a new sense of understanding of the Star Wars mythos.
What would you like to see in Taika Waititi’s new Star Wars film?
