With the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series drawing nearer, Star Wars fans are learning even more about what to expect from the show — including its composer, and her connection to the great John Williams.

Vanity Fair revealed this morning that Loki composer Natalie Holt will score the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Holt will be the first woman to compose music for a live-action Star Wars project.

“Obviously, I’m just thrilled to be mentioned in the same breath as John Williams,” Holt told the publication. “It’s been exciting and overwhelming at times, because I’m such a fan. I want to pay respect to the history of it, and do it justice as well.”

Holt says the work of John Williams not only inspired her work on Kenobi but has been essential to the foundations of her career since the very beginning.

“I think I’ve just always been a huge Star Wars fan,” she said when asked about her approach to the series’ score. “I watched the original trilogy with my dad when I was five years old. So the music from John Williams basically narrated my childhood:”

Even though Holt will score the majority of the series, Williams still wrote Obi-Wan’s theme — and according to her, it’s perfect. What else would you expect from such a legend?

“It’s reflective, and it’s just entirely appropriate,” she said. “And it distills what the show is about in just the perfect way that John Williams can.”

In addition to writing the music, Holt also performs in it, singing and playing several string instruments. It sounds like John Williams isn’t the only legend who will touch the one-of-a-kind series and make it truly shine.

Obi-Wan Kenobi stars Ewan McGregor with appearances by Hayden Christensen and Kumail Nanjiani and is directed by Deborah Chow, who previously directed an episode of The Mandalorian. The series is set to premiere May 27, 2022 exclusively on Disney+.
