With only a few weeks until the premiere of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+, few were expecting announcements on other future Star Wars TV projects. So when official confirmation came through that the Ahsoka series was underway, excitement for upcoming projects set in a galaxy far, far away soared.

This morning, the official Star Wars Twitter account announced that production on the original Disney+ series had begun. The tweet included a photo of a director’s chair with the show’s title printed on the back.

There’s a lot we still don’t know about the show, aside from its main characters and creative team. Rosario Dawson, who portrayed Ahsoka Tano in live-action for the first time in Season 2 of The Mandalorian and again in an episode of The Book of Boba Fett, will reprise her role as the iconic Togruta who no longer calls herself a Jedi. Previous reports indicate that the character of Sabine Wren will also share the screen with Ahsoka in a starring role.

This has led fans to speculate that at least part of the show will involve searching for Ezra Bridger, who disappeared at the end of Star Wars: Rebels with Grand Admiral Thrawn. Not only did Sabine promise to find him at the series’ end, but Ahsoka confirmed she was searching for the Admiral in her episode of The Mandalorian. If these two characters are still together, presumably locating one will lead to finding the other.

Dave Filoni has impressed viewers with his Star Wars storytelling before, and few doubt he will be able to do so again. Much of this series remains a mystery, and maybe that’s a good thing. The less we know going in, the more we’ll be surprised and delighted by what we see on-screen.

Star Wars: Ahsoka stars Rosario Dawson and is expected to arrive on Disney+ sometime in 2023.
