Adam Christopher’s Star Wars novel debut was worth the wait

When author Adam Christopher announced his first Star Wars novel several years ago, fans were excited for whatever the plot of his original Mandalorian story would entail. After the announcement of a delay, the book ultimately fell through. That was hardly the end for this writer’s journey into Star Wars storytelling, however — and we’re beyond lucky for that.

Back when Del Rey announced the cancellation of Christopher’s book, they simultaneously promised the author was already working with them on another Star Wars project. The publisher kept that promise, and last year, Shadow of the Sith was finally announced.

The story follows Luke Skywalker and Lando Calrissian on a dangerous post-ROTJ mission to learn more about the Sith — and possibly where they’re still hiding. But that short synopsis only scratches the surface of what really resides in these pages.

Without spoilers (our full review of the book will be available closer to release day), this story is a brilliant bridge between the original and sequel trilogies. But it wouldn’t be quite the masterpiece it is without Christopher’s brilliant writing and storytelling. The book’s scenes leap from every page, almost as if you’re right there in the action … though honestly, judging by what goes on in this story, you might not want to be, exactly.

Sometimes projects don’t work out, but the past is in the past. We may have had to wait just a little bit longer to see what Christopher would do with a Star Wars novel all his own, but the wait was worth it. I read every Star Wars novel that comes out (it comes with the job really). And though I’ve enjoyed every one that’s come out so far this year, Shadow of the Sith has been the hardest to put down, the most difficult to read quietly (I’ve wanted to yell things out loud as I’m reading), and the one that’s had me the most excited to see what the author might do in another Star Wars story someday.

I’ll say nothing more about it, other than it’s a must pre-order for Star Wars fans of all eras.

Star Wars: Shadow of the Sith will be available on June 28, 2022 wherever books are sold.
