Ever since Kiersten White announced she had written a young Obi-Wan Kenobi novel called Padawan, many Star Wars fans have hoped it would tell the story of Obi-Wan and Satine Kryze falling in love for the first time. The book comes out tomorrow, and despite warnings that this wouldn’t be a plot point of the novel, fans are still begging for that story to be told.

In an interview with StarWars.com earlier this year, the author was quick to clarify that Satine isn’t part of the plot of the book as many have assumed.

She said: “[B]efore anyone else asks, Satine isn’t in this novel. Actually, she’s the reason why there are no romantic subplots in Padawan. Obi-Wan commits absolutely in everything he does — including first love. I couldn’t dilute that!”

She even posted on Twitter recently confirming once again that Padawan won’t feature Satine or any part of her love story with Obi-Wan.

“I, too, would LOVE to have Obi-Wan and Satine’s story in my greedy little hands,” she wrote during San Diego Comic-Con in the days leading up to the book’s official launch. “But PADAWAN takes place pre-Master and Apprentice and therefore also pre-Satine.”

In The Clone Wars, Obi-Wan and Satine discuss the year they spent together while he and his master were on assignment to protect her on Mandalore. The details of the events that led to the pair falling in love haven’t been revealed in other stories yet. Padawan won’t be the story that finally changes that, but readers will find it a captivating must-read regardless.

Set before Claudia Gray’s Master and Apprentice, a book White referenced heavily when writing young Obi-Wan for her book, Padawan tells the story of Obi-Wan’s journey of self-discovery — and learning what the Force means to him and to his future. When his master Qui-Gon Jinn doesn’t show up to depart on their shared mission, Obi-Wan decides to take matters into his own hands. He’s never flown alone before, but he’ll probably be just fine, right?

Will we ever get that Obitine origin story we’ve wanted ever since The Clone Wars introduced the backstory in one of its earlier seasons? We’ll just have to wait and see.
