Even though Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is nearly seven years old, its story remains one of the most impactful in the history of the franchise. It changed the way fans view A New Hope and the destruction of the Death Star. And it introduced a handful of new characters — one of which viewers will soon get to learn even more about in Andor, premiering next month on Disney+.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Andor star Diego Luna gave more insight as to how the series will build upon the foundation of what Rogue One started.

“For me, Rogue One is very much about an event,” Luna told Entertainment Weekly, “and now we’re going to get the chance to actually understand and get to know this character — who he is, what pain he carries. What are his fears? What is his real motivation? It’s all going to be answered here.”

Though fans know a little about how Cassian got to where we meet him in the film — he was once a Fulcrum agent like Ahsoka Tano, and trailers have shown him crossing Imperial lines to get the information and resources the Rebel Alliance needs — there’s a lot we still don’t know. But that will soon change.

The show’s two seasons will take place over the five years leading up to Rogue One, with the series finale allegedly taking place just days before the present-day events of the film. It will heavily feature both Cassian Andor and Mon Mothma in their respective efforts to dismantle the Empire quietly from within, and will unfold its story in the form of a spy/political thriller unlike anything live-action Star Wars has done before.

Star Wars: Andor will premiere its first three episodes on September 21 exclusively on Disney+.
