Star Wars may be its best when the people making it are having the time of their lives. When it comes to Andor, one of the greatest believers in what the show is trying to accomplish is Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

The actor, who showed up in Andor for the first time in Episode 4, plays Arvel Skeen, one of the rebels serving under Vel’s command. Speaking with The Playlist, Moss-Bachrach discussed how it felt to join the Star Wars universe — and what it was like to watch series creator Tony Gilroy work.

“It was a surprisingly profound and scary little moment there,” he said, recalling his first day on set. “I got a little like choked up.”

Vel and her team are planning a dangerous heist — and Luthen has dropped Cassian right in the middle of it. Whether he truly cares about the cause or not.

“We’re a group of radicals trying to like free their little corner of the universe,” Moss-Bachrach explained. “Take some money from the Empire, free this little goat and sheep planet and blow some stuff up.”

At the end of Episode 4, the team only had three days before their mission was a go — and Cassian was far from ready. The next episode may reveal what happens next, but there’s still a long way to go before we find out how the show’s title character gets to the place where we meet him in Rogue One.

“Chronologically, it’s one of the more ‘Star Wars,’ because this takes us to ‘Rogue One,’ which takes us to ‘A New Hope,’ …So I kind of got into that feeling like I’m a founding father or something, you know?”

Moss-Bachrach has had the pleasure of watching the man behind the series build something truly unique and spectacular — something most of us will never get the opportunity to witness. Gilroy seems to know what he’s doing — and so far, it seems to be working.

“I’m just kind of in awe of Tony,” he confessed. “There was no writer’s room; there was Tony Gilroy, going into his office and spending hours in there and coming up with like planets and different kinds of spaceships and names… I’m just so tickled by thinking about Tony’s process of world-building going on.”

Andor drops new episodes Wednesdays exclusively on Disney+.
