While Sabine Wren trained with the Darksaber in Star Wars Rebels, to the surprise of fans, she became the Padawan learner of Ahsoka Tano between the previous show and Ahsoka. Sabine never showed she was Force-sensitive, so how is this possible?

In Star Wars, all beings have varying levels of the Force. As Obi-Wan Kenobi explains to Luke Skywalker in A New Hope, the Force is in everything as it holds the universe together. Those who have more Force sensitivity are the ones who tend to become Jedi and Sith.

There have been times in canon when Yoda welcomed those who did not showcase Force sensitivity to join the Jedi Order. Also, in films like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the Guardian of the Whill Chirrut Îmwe was profoundly spiritual and seemed to possess some low-level ability in the Force. However, the Jedi never brought him into their Order as he didn’t seem to meet their qualifications.

People can also learn to nurture their Force abilities. In the High Republic Era, Padawan Reath Silas knew he had lower Force capabilities than his fellow Padawans. That said, he learned to adapt and used what abilities he had to become a Jedi Knight.

So how does all of this apply to Sabine? All things have the Force, meaning it’s inside of her. While Professor Huyang points out in episode 2, “Toil and Trouble,” that Sabine’s Force sensitivity is the lowest he’s ever seen in someone he’s helped train, that doesn’t mean she can’t train as a Jedi. She can potentially learn to use what Force abilities she has, as Reath does in the High Republic, but she’s probably not going to move items with her mind anytime soon without more guidance from Ahsoka.
