The 2023 Star Wars video game Jedi: Survivor has been nominated for a Grammy Award, specifically for the Best Score for Video Game category.

The game’s composers, Stephen Barton and Gordy Haab, received the nomination earlier this morning. This is only the second round of nominations for this specific awards category, as it was first presented at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2023.

The game’s music was one of many notable qualities of the highly successful game, and it’s no surprise that its composers are among this year’s nominations for the category.

Previously, video game scores were lumped into a broader Visual Media soundtrack category and usually didn’t get nominated. This round, some of the biggest game franchises have the chance to compete to win.

Among the list of nominees for the Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media category, in addition to Survivor, include:

  • “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II,” Sarah Schachner, composer
  • “God of War Ragnarök,” Bear McCreary, composer
  • “Hogwarts Legacy,” Peter Murray, J Scott Rakozy and Chuck E. Myers “Sea,” composers
  • “Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical,” Jess Serro, Tripod and Austin Wintory, composers

Jedi: Survivor, the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, released on consoles and PC at the end of April 2023. It continued the story of Cal Kestis, a former Jedi whose training was cut short by the aftermath of Order 66. At the start of the sequel, Cal and his crew from the first game are scattered across the galaxy, all doing their best to survive an Empire-dominated galaxy.

The story is elevated by the game’s soundtrack, and it deserves nothing more than a Grammy win in 2024.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is available to purchase on PlayStation and Xbox consoles and PC.
