Dave Filoni has a new role at Lucasfilm. Vanity Fair is reporting that he has been promoted to the role of Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm. This is a fancy way of saying that he will be working alongside Kathleen Kennedy to oversee the next generation of Star Wars films and shows.

This new role allows him to be more hands-on earlier in the development process for projects. Filoni told Vanity Fair:

"“Now I’m what’s called chief creative officer of Lucasfilm. In the past, in a lot of projects I would be brought into it, I would see it after it had already developed a good ways.In this new role, it’s opened up to basically everything that’s going on. When we’re planning the future of what we’re doing now, I’m involved at the inception phase.”"

The report shares that along with Kennedy, Dave Filoni will be working closer with Carrie Beck, a long-time producer at Lucasfilm who Filoni has partnered with before. While Beck worked on series like Star Wars Rebels and the final season of The Clone Wars, as the Executive Vice President Live Action Development & Production, she has worked with Filoni on The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and the upcoming Skeleton Crew. Filoni will join Beck to work on the upcoming live-action series.

It’s important to note that Filoni was clear he is in no way telling creatives what to do with their projects. Instead, he wishes this role to be for new creators like he role he had with George Lucas who mentored Filoni. He stated:

"“I’m not telling people what to do. But I do feel I’m trying to help them tell the best story that they want to tell. I need to be a help across the galaxy here, like a part of a Jedi Council almost. To truly help filmmakers, it was really important for me to experience it firsthand. I can also lend a perspective on the challenges that telling these stories will present. I feel more capable of actually being helpful outside of just saying, ‘Well, Jedi are like this, and Sith are like this…’”"

This new role for Dave Filoni is exciting, and time will tell what the new future of Lucasfilm will look like with Filoni, Kennedy, and Beck at the wheel.
