Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Why Does Finn Have Anakin’s Saber?

One of the more interesting Panels at the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, this year, was the The Force Awakens Panel and exhibit. We learned so much from director J.J. Abrams, like the name of the new planet (Jakku), BB-8 is an actual working droid (not CGI), and we were treated with an amazing TFA second trailer.

The Force Awakens exhibit introduced us to names like the First Order and the Resistance, and gave us up-close and personal looks at the brand new Stormtrooper armor, Kylo Ren’s outfit and lightsaber, Rey’s scavenger ensemble, and Finn’s regular guy clothes once he unburdens himself of his trooper gear.

Speaking of Finn, who will be portrayed by the talented John Boyega, his particular exhibit showed us a concept art piece with a certain and familiar lightsaber protruding from his front left pocket. I feel the need at this point, to ask, what probably most of you were thinking, is that a lightsaber in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me? I’m sorry, I couldn’t help myself.

Anyway, what is Finn doing with a lightsaber in his pocket, and if I’m not mistaken, what it Finn doing with Anakin’s lightsaber? Which, by the way, was passed down to Luke before he lost it when Darth Vader severed his hand (What a dick move, dad).

As a matter of fact, the lightsaber that Finn seems to be proudly displaying in his pocket, looks an awful lot like the one that the little alien hand is handing to Leia…coincidence? I THINK NOT!

Let’s take a closer look at the lightsaber hilt of the former Anakin Skywalker. It was taken by Obi-Wan, after he pulled the ultimate un-bro move and cut Anakin’s legs and hands off, leaving him to burn in hot lava. Old Ben…or Obi-Wan, gave Luke his father’s lightsaber, calling it an elegant weapon for a more civilized age.

The question remains, why does Finn have the Skywalker familial lightsaber? Is he on a mission, disguised as a Stormtrooper, in order to keep tabs on the First Order and Kylo Ren, whom we believe is obsessed with his possible grandfather Darth Vader and therefore hunting down his relics?

Or, is Finn Force sensitive? Does Finn ultimately end up with the lightsaber as part of his training? Is Finn Luke’s son from a different woman? “You have that power, too” would make a crap-ton of sense, if this were the case.

Regardless of why Finn is sporting what really looks like the Skywalker saber, proudly for everyone to see, there are some unanswered questions that need to be addressed in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Like, is Luke trying to prevent Darth Plagueis from restarting the Sith Empire? Who is controlling Kylo Ren, who’s his Master? Because if the Rule of Two still applies, and there has been rumors that J.J. has thrown it out, then there should be a Master to Kylo Ren. Also, if not Finn, then who the heck is Luke talking to?

IS IT DECEMBER YET?
