Thanks to a simple question on Twitter, we now have confirmation that director Rian Johnson did not write a treatment for Star Wars: Episode IX….

Remember when Disney announced the directors for the new Star Wars trilogy? And, furthermore, do you remember when rumors swirled that all three directors — J.J. Abrams, Rian Johnson, and Colin Trevorrow — would have direct input on the story treatments for each film? Well, thanks to Rian Johnson’s interacting with his fans and followers on Twitter, we know that rumor to be false.

On Monday, April 24, Twitter user @mattpeto reached out to Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson and asked him if he was writing the treatment for Episode IX. Johnson responded.

Is this a case of a simple rumor gone astray, or, is there more to the story? As Collider points out, last year, Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow did make a statement that seemed like the two would be in a symbiotic relationship, when it comes to story treatments.

"A story must evolve or perish, and Rian and I are working closely together to make sure our stories build off of each other and continue to evolve and take us to new places, and I think that’s what the fans expect and what they want."

Regardless, Johnson did not say the info was false. No, he, in fact, does say the info was “old,” so maybe he was involved at some point. Maybe his vision of the film didn’t jive with Trevorrow’s, which if true, kind of worries me. But, for now, we’ll just hope that Johnson was too busy to be involved with Episode IX.
