“The Force Awakens” Teaser Trailer Rumor Frenzy

It should come as no surprise to anyone that the closer we come to the December ’15 release of the next Star Wars film, the crazier the rumor mill will spin.

Even though the premiere of The Force Awakens is still over a year away, the internet has been abuzz the past week or so over the potential of the film’s first teaser trailer arriving soon… very soon. As in, as soon as this week.

This past Thursday the 20th, the folks over at Star Wars 7 News posted an article stating that they had sources who claimed that the first teaser trailer for The Force Awakens would be attached to the upcoming film The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, which arrives in theaters on December 17th.

From the Star Wars 7 News post:

"Firstly, our own Echo-07 has spoken with a local theater manager, who has indicated that the teaser for The Force Awakens will indeed be released along with the new Hobbit movie in December. The manager said they don’t get the trailer info very far in advance. It comes on a drive. He said he didn’t think it would come in with Hunger Games: Mockingjay. He also said that companies aren’t allowed to “cross-promote” except for two times in a year. There are rules and regs about this apparently. However, since Hobbit comes out a year before Star Wars: The Force Awakens it could be close enough to be within these rules."

Immediately following the post from Star Wars 7 News, there appeared a conflicting report from Germain Lussier of Slash Film.

From the Slash Film article:

"Wednesday, a very credible sounding rumor began to circulate that the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens would be attached to The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Well, we’ve heard from a very credible source that, with 100% certainty, the Star Wars 7 trailer won’t debut with Peter Jackson’s latest The Hobbit film. There’s a very strong likelihood it will play with that film but according to the source, Disney has “bigger plans” for the trailer debut than a simple attachment. What does that mean? When will it happen? We honestly don’t know."

Finally, Slash Film followed up their report with a new article that was dropped just this evening. The editor of Slash Film himself, Peter Sciretta claims to know for sure that we’ll be seeing brand new Star Wars footage this upcoming holiday weekend.

From the brand new Slash Film report:

"I have independently confirmed with good sources that the Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer will be shown in a limited number of theaters during the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend. I know that there will be a limited amount of theaters participating in the “preview.” I have not confirmed any more details other than that."

Peter Sciretta continues:

"But take a breath — we do know for sure that the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer will be publicly premiered this week on the big screen. I’m happy that the premiere will be done in theaters and not online, because I want the first new Star Wars footage to be presented in the biggest and best way possible — on the big screen, in a theater with other excited Star Wars geeks."

If you believe Sciretta and his “independently confirmed” information, you’ll have a chance to see the first all new Star Wars footage in nearly a decade, just by simply buying a ticket to any movie you choose this weekend.

So, there you have it. Even if you take all of these new reports with a grain of midichlorians, it’s pretty likely we’ll be seeing this rumored teaser trailer pretty soon.
