Fans in Select Cities Will Get to See “The Force Awakens” Trailer This Weekend

This morning, Regal Cinemas revealed via their official site that they will be showing the first teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens this Friday, November 28th.

Unfortunately for most of us, the new trailer is playing at only 9 select theaters…

From the official Regal Cinemas site:

"This Friday, the world premiere of Star Wars Episode VII trailer will be revealed at select North America theatres.Be one of the first to experience the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens at the following Regal locations.  The trailer will debut before all movies starting November 28 – November 30."

Before you get too excited, let’s make sure you live close enough to one of these “select North America theatres”.

Here’s the full list of theaters showing The Force Awakens trailer this weekend, according to Regal Cinemas:

  • Edwards Irvine Spectrum 22 & IMAX : Irvine, CA
  • Edwards Mira Mesa Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX : San Diego, CA
  • Regal Atlantic Station Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX : Atlanta, GA
  • Regal City North Stadium 14 IMAX & RPX : Chicago, IL
  • Regal Union Square Stadium 14 : New York, NY
  • Regal Warrington Crossing Stadium 22 & IMAX : Warrington, PA
  • Regal Pinnacle Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX : Knoxville, TN
  • Edwards Houston Marq’e Stadium 23 IMAX & RPX : Houston, TX
  • Regal Thornton Place Stadium 14 & IMAX : Seattle, WA

This is a strange move by Lucasfilm and is proving to be quite the unpopular one very quickly. This of course, greatly limits the audience for a rather significant moment for Star Wars fandom. It’s unclear as to whether or not there will be more theaters included in showing the trailer before Christmas… perhaps other theater chains besides Regal Cinemas will partake in the near future?

Regardless of how the teaser trailer for The Force Awakens is released, it should definitely come as a shock to all that we’re actually seeing it’s release before 2015. There have been many who have speculated it’s early debut and quite a few news sites citing “sources” to confirm their knowledge of the trailer being released this holiday weekend. However, nothing is confirmed until it’s been officially announced by either Lucasfilm or a company they’ve partnered with… in this case, Regal Cinemas seems to have written this one in stone.

What do you think, Dork Siders? Has Lucasfilm made the right move? Will you be making a trip to one of the nine “select” theaters in order to view the first NEW Star Wars footage in nearly a decade? Let us know your thoughts on this crazy news by leaving us a comment below!
