This Thursday afternoon, Entertainment Weekly broke an exclusive with the reveal of several character names from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

In an all too exciting post, EW’s Anthony Breznican was able to confirm that director J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy decided to release some NEW information on the images that fans were treated to in last week’s “88 SECONDS”.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD! IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW THE NAMES OF THESE CHARACTERS, CLOSE YOUR INTERNET BROWSER RIGHT MEOW.

Okay, everyone in? Here we go, Dork Siders!

From the EW report:

"We finally got to meet some new characters in the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but now we’re getting to put some names with the faces.J.J. Abrams, the film’s co-writer and director, and Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, have decided to reveal the identities of some of their new characters exclusively to EW—and they’ve done it in a retro fashion that should bring a smile to anyone familiar with the phrase “Collect ‘Em, Trade ‘Em.”"

"That was the catchphrase of the Topps trading card company, which in addition to baseball players and comic book characters put out a series of collectible cards featuring scenes and characters from around the galaxy for the original 1977 Star Wars movie."

That’s right, Dork Siders. The powers that be at Lucasfilm are the ones calling the shots here, and they’ve decided to go completely retro in this exclusive reveal to Entertainment Weekly.

More from the EW report:

"For now, we’re getting to know the characters played by John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, and Oscar Isaac—as well as that shadowy figure in the snow with the crossguard lightsaber. Also, we no longer have to call that adorable, rolling robot “ball droid.” Like C-3p0 and R2-D2 before him (her?), that character now has its own alphanumeric moniker: BB-8.The card captions also give a hint about the state of mind of the characters, but this far from the Dec. 18, 2015 release date, the filmmakers don’t want to reveal any more.“I’m only sorry we couldn’t give everyone a stick of gum,” Abrams says."

Enough of the story, let’s get to the actual character names, right?

Here’s a few of the names that we’ve learned from this official announcement:

  • John Boyega: “Finn”
  • Daisy Ridley: “Rey”
  • Oscar Isaac: “Poe Dameron”

The other character name reveals include the droid designation of “BB-8” for the adorable new “ball droid” that everyone loves.

Star Wars fans, meet BB-8.

In addition, the mysterious cloaked figure featured towards the end of The Force Awakens teaser trailer has been given the name of “Kylo Ren”.

Who is the mysterious Kylo Ren? Fans are eager to find out!

There have been many rumors surrounding the names of these characters and the nature of their part in the continuing Star Wars story. The name most popularly tied to Daisy Ridley’s character?

“Kira”.
