First confirmed look at Kylo Ren’s mask for Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Jason Ward from Making Star Wars has confirmed a picture that was floating around Imgur yesterday (that picture has sense been removed), of a puzzle that has Kylo Ren’s mask facing forward, peeking out of his hood, as the final version of the Sith warrior’s helmet.

The mask is reportedly the final version of a yellow mask revealed by Indie Revolver, a few months ago. The mask harkens back to Lord Vader’s, with the difference being, he wears it beneath a hood. Indie Revolver pointed out that Kylo Ren’s hood and cloak are ragged and tattered in many of the shots we’ve seen him in, but there is no way of knowing if that’s his style or if the events of the film leave him in such a state of disrepair.

From the picture, we can see that the final helmet includes the inscribed lines around the sides and front of the mask, and the coloring went from being yellow in the concept art, to being red in the final version. The facemask is supposedly removable, which is something that even the stormtroopers will be able to do in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

To me, Kylo Ren’s mask looks extremely similar to that of Darth Revan. And, much like Kylo Ren, Revan wore a hood over his helmet. The main difference between the two is, Revan’s helmet doesn’t have any flaring and it is more of an oval dome type of mask.

As you can see on the Kylo Ren mask, there are more lines on the front, than is what is on the Revan mask.

The real question now is, will Kylo Ren be the next iconic Sith bad guy? Darth Vader carried that torch for so long, even when Darth Maul came onto the scene. With the popularity of Knights of the Old Republic, Revan cut quite the iconic figure, himself. Now it’s Kylo Ren’s turn. Let’s hope he can fill those very large shoes.
