The time is upon us. Tomorrow morning, April 16, the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California, will commence with Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams and producer Kathleen Kennedy. The hope of everyone, both in attendance live or at home watching the live-stream, is that Abrams will drop the second trailer for TFA.

StarWars.com has released “Tips and Tricks” for folks attending the Celebration, so that they can get the most out of their experience. And, while most of these tips and tricks are common sense, perhaps it would be prudent to review, just in case you’re there in Anaheim.

  1. Wear comfortable shoes: Okay, if you need to be reminded to wear comfortable shoes to an event where you will most definitely spend most of your time on your feet, then perhaps this is not the celebration you were looking for.
  2. Dress in layers: The reason given for this is the ever changing temperatures of southern California, but let’s face it, unless you are just cold-natured and are forced to wear a turtleneck sweater all year round, then just wear normal clothes. You’ll spend most of your time inside, anyway, and who wants to have to carry a couple of extra layers of clothes around, once they get hot?
  3. Stay hydrated: Yes, this is actually a really great tip. It’s easy to forget to drink water, or some sort of electrolyte replenishing drink, when you’re excitedly hurrying from one panel to the next. So, drink up!
  4. Bring extra chargers: Number one rule of attending cons is always, always have an extra charger for your phone. You never know when you’ll need it, especially if you have the floor-plan uploaded to your mobile device.
  5. Save taxi and car service information now: This is great advice as well. Look into which taxi services run in that area, especially if you plan on going out to enjoy some libations at the end of each day. Help keep our Ewoks safe, no drinking and driving.
  6. Make a loose schedule: Yes! Why go to such an awesome event, if you spend your entire time there, stressed-out over whether or not you’ll make the next panel. StarWars.com wisely notes that you wont be able to attend every panel and see everything you want to see, so go ahead and brace yourself for disappointment now.
  7. Shop smart: Look, there will be exclusive Star Wars merchandise that you can only get at the Celebration, so don’t put off making that exclusive purchase, until the end, because there will undoubtedly be limited quantities. The old rule of thumb applies here, the early mynock gets the exogorth. Also, make sure to protect those fragile items, like posters, art, and glassware. Poster tubes are your friend.
  8. Talk to those around you in line: While the thought of actual human interaction might send some introvert-nerds into cardiac-arrest, making acquaintances with your fellow Celebration-goers will help to enrich your experience and who knows, you might make an actual real-life friend!
  9. Plan for lines: This cannot be said enough. There is literally no way to know which panels/booths will end-up being packed to the gills, but if you allow yourself 10-15 extra minutes, then that may very-well be what makes the difference in you getting into what you came all the way from a galaxy far, far away to Anaheim, for.
