During today’s Star Wars Rebels Panel at the Star Wars Celebration, executive/supervising producer Dave Filoni confirmed that James Earl Jones would in fact be reprising his role as the voice of Darth Vader, for Season 2 of Star Wars Rebels. This isn’t the first time that Jones has lent his iconic voice to the fledgling animated Star Wars series. During the broadcast premiere of Rebels Season 1, on ABC, the actor was on hand to voice Vader, for one scene.

Filoni stated that the plan is to keep Jones working on Rebels, for now, and if the show continues to have success, and as long as Darth Vader is on the show, then the plan is to keep on using him.

As for Darth Vader’s role in Season 2 of Rebels, from the trailer it would appear that he is now spearheading the task of tracking down and capturing/extinguishing the rebels. From that trailer, we also know that Vader and Kanan will lock lightsabers in what is sure to be an amazing fight, as well as Ezra trying to intervene on his Master’s behalf.

What is it about these Jedi that they have to fight 2 against 1, like all the time? Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon vs Darth Maul, Anakin and Yoda vs Count Dooku, Obi-Wan and Anakin vs Count Dooku.

Anyway, back to Star Wars Rebels. The Kanan vs Vader showdown withstanding, the news today that Ashoka will be a regular member of Rebels, this season could mean that she and her former master, Anakin-turned-Vader, could happen, much like the poster for Star Wars Rebels Season 2 suggests.

Now that’s a fight worth the price of admission. We don’t have an official premiere date for Star Wars Rebels, but since the red carpet premiere is this evening, at the Star Wars Celebration, it’s likely we will get an official date from Disney XD, soon.
