Today marks the last day of the Star Wars Celebration. Stormtroopers are boarding transports for home, and Ewoks are hitching rides with rebel forces, hoping for a drop-off at Endor. The week has been a blast, with the highlight being the new teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
As part of the Celebration’s closing ceremonies which, will start at 5pm CST, the official schedule for the event is teasing a possible look into the future of Star Wars.
"“Come together at the Closing Ceremony at Celebration to relive some of your favorite moments of the weekend, and to see some of the highlights you might have missed. Nostalgic and fun, plus there might be a forward-looking surprise in the mix!”"
So what exactly does “forward-looking surprise” mean? As I type this, our staffer Kyle, is currently live-tweeting the Gareth Edwards and Josh Trank Panel, where they are showing a teaser of Rogue One, the Star Wars spinoff. So, will the Rogue One clip be shown at the closing ceremonies, so the world can see it?
Another option could be yet another teaser for The Force Awakens…well, not so much as an all new teaser, but possibly an extended version of the one shown on Thursday. As you may well know, Star Wars: The Force Awakens full trailer is slated to be shown in front of Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, which premieres on May 1st. Could we be shown that full-length trailer at the closing ceremonies? Did we only see part of a larger piece, on Thursday?
Finally, there has been speculation and rumors aplenty, that a Boba Fett stand-alone spinoff film will be the next officially announced Star Wars movie. We’ve seen Boba Fett in the trailer for Star Wars Battlefront, which means that he did not in fact die in the Sarlacc pit…like we didn’t already suspect he survived. So, like our on-the-scene staffer Kyle, I think that we are going to see the announcement of a Boba Fett movie. Get ready, this has the possibility one heck of a wile ride.
