15. Ian McDiarmid Dashes Hopes of Palpatine Returning
There were plenty of teases, hints, and sly winking comments as to the future of Star Wars characters at the convention, but Ian McDiarmid refused to participate in such speculation when it came to his own character.
“I’m dead. I’ve been dead for the past 30 years,” McDiarmid said, referring to the Emperor. At first, the actor indulged fans a little when he said it made sense that the Emperor would fashion a clone before putting himself in any danger, but he quickly negated his own theory, saying Lucas definitely closed that door years ago.
