There is literally no better way to bring Star Wars fans together, than by debating who the greatest characters in Star Wars history are. Notice I didn’t say “no better way to bring fans together in peace and harmony,” because usually the debate ends in someone’s mother being called a drunken Twi’lek hooker with a pair of fat ugly lekku. As you can see, most of the time these debates really never end well. In fact, it would be a fair assumption to say that debating the greatest Star Wars characters…or who shot first (Han or Greedo), is tantamount to talking about religion or politics on Facebook; You know not everyone is going to agree with you, and most likely someone is going to get un-friended, before it’s all said and done.

So how would one go about comprising a list of the greatest Star Wars characters? Wouldn’t there have to be some sort of rules? And, how long is this list and who decides which characters make the cut?

It’s simple. Each member of the Dork Side of the Force staff would submit a list of their top 25 favorite Star Wars characters…in no particular order. We were allowed to choose any character in the Star Wars universe, which means Expanded Universe, Canon, and Legends were all in play. Once that was done, we compared the lists and made sure that duplicate choices automatically made the final showing, because if multiple people were choosing the same character, then there has to be a reason.

Then, each DSotF staffer would narrow that list down to their top 5 most favorite characters and write-up a reason why these particular 5 characters made the final list. We quickly learned that by doing it this way, no one’s mother was called any unsavory names having to do with slimy Hutt genitalia.

With that in mind, we started our journey, roughly a month ago, and today–Star Wars Day–May 4th, we finally have what we feel is a comprehensive and thought provoking list of the 25 greatest Star Wars characters.
