16. Darth Bane

(Write-up by David Harris (Razor), Dork Side of the Force Editor in Chief)

Darth Bane started out as Dessel, a poor miner with anger issues who escaped imprisonment by the republic, by joining and becoming a foot soldier in the Sith Brotherhood of Darkness. Eventually his Sith masters recognized his Force sensitivity and sent him to train at the Sith Academy on Korriban.

Realizing that the Sith Empire had become a bunch of sycophantic weaklings, Bane deserted the Sith and forsook the Dark Side of the Force. During his time away from the Sith Empire, Bane studied a Holocron from Darth Revan and from it he learned how to bring-down the current Sith ruling class. By doing so, Bane created a new Sith Order and the Rule of Two. “One Master and one apprentice; one to embody the power, the other to crave it.

Darth Bane holds a special place among the Sith, as he was able to deceive and defeat not only the already dying Sith Order, but an entire group of Jedi as well. Bane lured them all to a cave where a “thought bomb” was detonated, killing all Force sensitive beings in the vicinity. Bane’s power alone, earns him a spot on this list, but the fact that he created the Rule of Two, cements that place forever.
