As expected, the biggest draw at Monday’s E3 was the Star Wars video game news. EA gave a new look at Star Wars Battlefront, which we will cover, and of course we got the official announcement of the next expansion in the Star Wars The Old Republic game, Knights of the Fallen Empire. Watch the massively epic trailer here:

A man can have anything…

If he’s willing to sacrifice everything.

"Step into an epic story-driven adventure as your character becomes The Outlander, a veteran of the Great Galactic War. A third faction threatens the galaxy as we know it, and your choices will determine the fate of both the Sith Empire and Galactic Republic. Knights of the Fallen Empire includes the first nine chapters, fueled by BioWare-style cinematic storytelling, that kicks off a new player-driven story arc that puts you at the center of a conflict where your choices have impact on outcomes including unexpected twists and betrayals. Choose your path…join or betray companions, old and new…and shape the future of the entire galaxy as well as your own. Best of all, this is only the beginning…"

It looks as if there will now be a third faction, and at level 60, you will be able to choose to stay a Sith or Jedi, Rebublic or Empire, or become an Outlander. We also get to interact with the very mysterious Immortal Emperor. This guy is seriously powerful, and those twins are obviously his sons/pawns in his new ploy to dominate the galaxy.

The SWTOR site also has a list of new characters that will be met during the expansion. Some of these are to be companions, it seems, while others will be story-arc characters.

If the two twins being in black and white are symbolic of the Light Side vs the Dark Side, then perhaps the twist is that there is no black and white, only grey. Arcann definitely seems like a Grey Jedi, or Dark Jedi. His brother, Vaylin, seems the opposite. He seems Sith all the way.

Here’s is the enigmatic Immortal Emperor.

The title of Dark Advisor seems very mysterious. Will Lana be our advisor, or the Emperor’s?

The Outlander appears to be the mantle each player will take on, during their journey through the new story.

Senya seems to be the antithesis of Lana.

Koth looks as if he is a former soldier in the regular army. Exiled General makes me think he will be a companion that can tank or DPS…much like the trooper…or he could be part of the story.

MEATBAGS! HK-55 will be a very fun companion, I’m sure, added in this expansion.

Bioware has also set a list of in-game rewards that players who have been playing after certain dates will get access to. Nico Okarr and his gear are very exciting, and if you play a smuggler class, I can totally see you taking his gear for your own. The Swoop Bike will be my favorite new mount…I’ve only seen it once, and I can see that I am already drooling over it.

The release date for the new expansion is set for October 27, later this year, and is being billed as Bioware’s return to the rich story-telling that drew so many fans to the original game release. I am very excited for this, and need to dust off my Sith Juggernaut, really quick. It’s time to get some levels!
