Star Wars: The Phantom Menace Star – Jake Lloyd – Arrested After High Speed Chase

The actor who played young Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, was arrested in South Carolina for reckless driving, failure to stop, and driving without a driver’s license. According to police records, when Colleton County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to pull Lloyd’s vehicle over, he began passing cars on a double yellow line and increased speed, driving in a reckless manner.

Lloyd’s vehicle then ran off the right hand side of the road and drove through a fence down a road that ended at a dead end, but the vehicle continued driving into a wooded area where his vehicle collided with several small trees. According to the report, the chase began in Charleston County, but ended in Colleton County. Police have stated that Lloyd has yet to hire or be appointed a lawyer.

Website TMZ has obtained footage of the chase, which reached around 117 MPH, and you can watch that here.

Sadly, after The Phantom Menace, Jake Lloyd’s career stalled, and he did not continue what seemed to be a potentially bright future in acting. While many Star Wars fans disliked the prequel movies, and young Anakin in particular, the actor still did quite a good job, for being so young.

In 2012, Lloyd broke his silence about his short stint in the Star Wars cinematic universe, saying that he had destroyed all of his Star Wars memorabilia because it had ruined his life. He also mentioned that the reason he retired from acting in 2001, was due to bullying. Hopefully this incident can be resolved, and Jake can get his life back on track, because whether or not he is no longer part of the Star Wars universe, he was, for the briefest of moments, the chosen one.
