Star Wars: The Force Awakens – What we know so far

J.J. confirmed that the desert planet seen in the trailers was not in fact Tatooine, but the war-torn and desolate planet of Jakku. Both the starships of the Rebels and Empire crashed to the floor of the planet after the Battle for Endor, and the survivors carved out an establishment from the wreckage. The Star Destroyer in this photo is just one of the massive ships scattered across the planet’s landscape.
