Marvel Star Wars: Vader Down – A Six-Part Crossover Event

StarWars.com got an exclusive interview regarding the newest Marvel Comics Star Wars event — Vader Down. If you’ve had the great pleasure of reading Marvel’s new Star Wars comics, then you may know that Marvel has been telling the story of events starting from Episode IV: A New Hope and heading in the direction of Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. They’ve been doing this from two perspectives: One from the point of view from the heroes of the saga, and the other from Darth Vader’s point of view. It’s a refreshing and exciting way to deal with stories that have already been told on the big-screen, but obviously have more depth and story to tell.

Both points of view offer a look at that game changing moment, in which Darth Vader learns the name Skywalker is the surname of the one who destroyed the Death Star. This event sends feelings of doubt and anger into Vader, perhaps opening the door for his redemption in Return of the Jedi. The two series have been exciting and intense, and at last week’s San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel announced that they would come together in an epic event with Vader Down, a six-part crossover event that kicks off in November, with Vader Down #1 and crosses-over in each individual series.

In an interview with Star Wars writer Jason Aaron and Darth Vader writer Kieron Gillen. StarWars.com asked what readers can expect from the story. Here’s what Gillen had to say:

"“It’s called Vader Down and the core image is Vader against the entire Rebel army and fleet. It’s Vader with an array of people in front of him and he’s in a precarious situation. What happens then?”"

This is where we get to see just what Darth Vader is made of, and what his powers truly are. Have we always known he’s a badass? Sure, but up until now, for the most part, we’ve only seen Vader display his power in brief encounters. I would even argue that it is Darth Vader’s presence that inspires fear, more than his actual power. And, that may be because of a reputation he’s earned that we will read about in Vader Down.

The full interview, which you can read in its entirety at StarWars.com, does go on to reveal that Vader’s evil droids will come face to face with R2-D2 and C-3PO, which should make for a fun read. The crossover will include all the Star Wars titles currently running from Marvel, which means that this series will truly cover every base and finally give readers and Star Wars fans some much needed backstory filler.
