35. Tatooine Sets Built In 1977 In Tunisia Are Still Standing

The prequel films were blasted for relying too much on visual effects and CGI to create the worlds they took place in, but it wasn’t always that way.

When George Lucas was making A New Hope back in 1976, he went on location to film the scenes on Tatoonie, traveling to Tunisia to make the magic happen. This meant that sets needed to be built in the desert for filming, some of which are still standing today.

The sets were in such great shape that the production returned in 2001 while filming Attack of the Clones, and again this past year with The Force Awakens. So if you ever want to travel to a galaxy far, far away, all you need to do is travel to Tunisia.

The twin suns are not guaranteed to appear, however.
