34. Harrison Ford Was Payed $10,000 For A New Hope

While Alec Guinness made bank for A New Hope, the same cannot be said for another star of the movie. Harrison Ford already had films like American Graffiti and The Conversation under his belt when he appeared in Star Wars, but he was hardly a bankable star worth spending a lot of money on.

People tend to forget that the original Star Wars was an independent film largely funded by George Lucas himself. This meant the young and unknown cast of the film needed to be paid on the light end of the scale.

Apparently the light end of the scale began at $10,000.

That’s nothing to sneeze at, as 10 grand is a lot of money in any era. But given the success of the film and its legacy, it seems like highway robbery that Ford was paid so little. He would end up being alright though, turning into an Oscar-nominated action star a few decades later.
