15. Wedge Antillies Is Obi-Wan’s Uncle
Wedge is Obi-Wan’s uncle? Well, not in the stories, but the actors who play those roles are indeed related in real life.
Denis Lawson plays the best Rebel pilot not named Luke in the original trilogy, and was instrumental in helping destroy the Death Star in both A New Hope and again in Return of the Jedi. But that’s not his only connection to the Star Wars universe.
In real life, Lawson is the uncle of actor Ewan McGregor — who played the younger version of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel films. The two never acted on screen together in the same Star Wars movie, but there’s still time for that to happen.
McGregor has been open about wanting to play Obi-Wan again, but Lawson refused a role in The Force Awakens after he felt it was nothing more than a gag for old fans and didn’t have an impact on the story. Still, folks can rest at night knowing that Star Wars is so deep that it literally has a family tree within it.
