14. Star Wars Collectable Coins Are Real Cash
While the movies are what draws everyone in and serves as the foundation of the Star Wars legacy, it’s the collectables that have since made the franchise into something bigger.
George Lucas’ infamous toy deal with 20th Century Fox in the 70s changed the way studios conduct merchandising business, as a multibillion dollar world of collectables was spawned from A New Hope and beyond. While most collectables need to be resold to have any extra cash value to their owner, that’s not true of all Star Wars merchandise.
A small island in the Pacific called Niue accepts Star Wars coins as real cash. These would be the collectable dollar coins that have been minted to have characters branded onto them. While you won’t get much at a store in America with these coins, if you ever find yourself in a pinch while in Niue, just reach for the Star Wars coins and let the Force guide you the rest of the way.
