13. Mel Blanc Almost Voiced C-3PO

There is a long list of actors who were almost cast in the various Star Wars films, but given how large the films became it’s interesting to look back and think about what might have been.

One of the most interesting casting misses was the legendary Mel Blanc playing the role of C-3PO in A New Hope. Blanc is the genius voice actor behind such classic Warners Bros. cartoons like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Porky Pig. He was Seth MacFarlane before there was a Seth MacFarlane — and both almost wound up connected to Star Wars.

While MacFarlane is a fan and leans on the films for humor in his work, Blanc was almost cast in the films themselves. Instead of Blanc, actor Anthony Daniels took up the role of C-3PO and the rest was history. Had Blanc been cast though, his death in 1989 would have needed to be worked around if everyone’s favorite paranoid droid was destined to appear in the prequels.
