47. Obi-Wan Almost Returned From The Dead in Return of the Jedi

When Obi-Wan was killed in A New Hope it was the springboard that led to Luke Skywalker starting his journey as the Jedi’s last hope. It was a surprising death, but one that was almost undone in the final installment of the original trilogy.

In an early draft of Return of the Jedi, there was conversation about having Obi-Wan come back in the flesh to help Luke defeat Darth Vader at the end of the film.

This is an incredibly stupid idea — one of many that were pitched in the story sessions for ROTJ but never ended up happening.

Having Obi-Wan come back would have been an interesting twist, but it also would have gone against the entire mythology of the films and, not to mention, ruined ghost Obi-Wan forever.
