2. Tupac Auditioned For Mace Windu in The Phantom Menace

Mace Windu is a fan favorite among Star Wars fans, thanks in large part to the fact that he was played by Samuel L. Jackson. But there was another actor who almost landed the role, and it would have brought the ultimate street cred to the Star Wars galaxy.

Rapper Tupac was interested in playing the role of Mace Windu in 1999’s The Phantom Menace and even went as far as to audition for the role. Tupac bragged to his producing partner that he had “three movies” in the works in 1996 and one of them was for George Lucas.

Production on The Phantom Menace started in June 1997, which was less than a year after Tupac was killed in a drive by shooting in Las Vegas. Even if he had lived, Tupac wouldn’t have gotten the role, as he was passed over for Samuel L. Jackson. However, having Tupac in The Phantom Menace would have instantly made the film ten times better than it ended up being.
