Star Wars Rebels: Season 2 Episodes to Premiere at New York Comic-Con

Star Wars has dominated the West Coast convention scene this year, but now another crew from a galaxy far, far away is setting its sights on stealing the show on the East Coast.

According to the official Star Wars site, New York Comic-Con will feature a panel on Star Wars Rebels during its Oct. 8-11 run. The event, scheduled for the convention’s first day, will start with a panel of “special guests” on the Empire Stage from 1:30-2:30 p.m. and include a “sneak peek” at the show’s upcoming second season.

Then later the same day, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., attendees can watch the first two episodes of the season at the same stage. These are the episodes immediately following the season two premiere “The Siege of Lothal,” which premiered exclusively at Star Wars Celebration in April and was later broadcast on Disney XD in June. If you want to get caught up on the premiere, check out our review of “The Siege of Lothal” here.

Anticipation is high for the show after it wrapped up a stellar first season with “Fire Across the Galaxy.” This season has already amped up expectations by showcasing Darth Vader in the premiere as an almost horror-movie monster hunting down Ezra, Kanan and the crew of the Ghost.

This season is also notable as it begins to forge connections between Rebels and the Clone Wars TV show. We’ve already been reunited with Anakin Skywalker’s former padawan Ahsoka Tano, and these upcoming episodes to be shown at NYCC will re-introduce more beloved characters from the series, including the clone troopers Captain Rex, Captain Gregor and Commander Wolffe. We’ve already gotten a preview of one of the episodes, called “The Lost Commanders,” which you can watch here.

It makes sense for Star Wars to have a solid presence at New York Comic-Con. San Diego Comic-Con may be the more popular and high-profile event, but its East Coast cousin commands just as much attention, and even posts higher attendance numbers (thanks to larger facilities than San Diego).

It’s unclear exactly what special guests will be at the panel but I’m assuming it’ll at least be Dave Filoni and the main voice talent. The sneak peek may be a second trailer for the season.

Star Wars Rebels returns to air sometime in the fall, most likely October.
