New Star Wars: The Force Awakens Leaked Set Footage

With just over 100 days until the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Dec. 18, more and more rumors and leaks are surfacing on the Internet. As the frenzy builds to a fever pitch, the reveals will only get more intense and spoilery as time goes on. And this latest item proves that.

While there have been plenty of leaked images of The Force Awakens, we haven’t seen too much unofficial on-set footage from the movie. There was a brief clip of an explosion inside an Imperial hangar that surfaced a couple months back.

But this latest video, which is over two minutes long, appears to be set on the desert planet of Jakku, filmed in Abu Dhabi. And you can actually see Rey and Finn.

The video, which has been taken down from YouTube already but can be seen at Makingstarwars.com, looks like it was secretly filmed by an extra during filming. While much of it is shaky and the audio is subpar, you can clearly make out the surroundings as a marketplace on Jakku. It’s not long before two figures, clearly dressed as Finn and Rey, rush past the camera.

That’s when the clip really gets cool. Small explosions start popping up around the market, and then the First Order stormtroopers rush into frame, chasing Finn and Rey. Meantime, you do get an up-close view of some of the neat alien costumes that these extras got to wear.

It’s unfortunate that the audio sounds like the entire scene was shot underwater. Jason Ward of Makingstarwars.com says you can hear Rey shout “Let go of me” with Finn responding, “We gotta get out of here.” That makes sense storywise, if Rey is initially distrustful of Finn because he is a stormtrooper.

The footage bears a date of Jan. 15, 2014, so it’s weird that it’s being posted now. There’s also another easter egg in the clip at about 1:18, when you can see the beard of the guy who probably took this video.

This probably won’t be the last unofficial look at the movie we’ll get before December. If anything, it’s heralding the next wave of spoilers and leaks that promise to contain even more sensitive information than we’ve yet seen. If you’re into that stuff, then stay tuned. If not, then be on your guard, and may the Force be with you.
