We’ve been reporting on this The Force Awakens news all week, and today it seems that Rolling Stone is getting in on the mix, as well. The rumor: The third and final Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer will be shown during Monday Night Football between the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles.
An enterprising Redditor by the name of DatESPNGUY broke the news to the teams’ respective Reddit forums:
"“This Monday Disney is releasing the full trailer for The Force Awakens after the first quarter of your game. The whole night from graphics and scoreboard are Star Wars themed. The intro to the game gets an opening crawl detailing your hated rivalry. Seriously it’s the coolest thing Monday Night Football has ever done. Oh and one more thing. The trailer will play on the screen at Lincoln Financial so that those in attendance don’t miss out!”"
The trailer is supposedly going to air at 8pm EST, with the advance tickets going on sale on movie sites online, everywhere, soon after. Rolling Stone did reach out to ESPN for an official comment, but got none. My guess is, the company — who is owned by Disney — is keeping as tight-lipped as possible on the matter, especially since the secrecy surrounding The Force Awakens has been ridiculously over-the-top.
I would also like to point out, that even if Disney/Lucasfilm uses Monday Night Football as a platform to launch the third and final trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there will more than likely be an online release sometime before the game even starts, in fact, I’d even bet that the trailer gets released early on Monday afternoon. Still though, the prospect of making MNF all about Star Wars, does sound quite exciting…I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Oh, and there’s just one more bit of information, Rolling Stone does note that the film’s official poster is scheduled to be unveiled at some point this Sunday, October 18.
