9. A Modern Twist

These new Star Wars movies aren’t being made in 1979, and that’s OK.

Why was Guardians of the Galaxy so much fun while the prequels were so boring? YES, BUT BESIDES THE TRADE NEGOTIATIONS AND JAR JAR. The prequels bored me because they took themselves so seriously.  Even the moments that were supposed to be fun and joking had this feeling of “we have to do this the Star Wars way!”

What they should have done is make the best movies they could have made in the late 90s early 2000s that happened to be Star Wars movies.  That would have given the movies a fighting chance I think.

I love that JJ Abrams is using less CGI, Hollywood has clearly gone nutty about CGI.  We don’t want a CGI video game mess like the Hobbit movies.  But I hope he isn’t super contained by the conventions of what Star Wars is.  I have faith, he did an outstanding job with Star Trek after all.

I’m fine with a Beastie Boys dog fight, bring it on sucker.
