The official Star Wars: The Force Awakens theatrical poster was unveiled on Sunday, and just like its six predecessors, the beautiful artwork told a story of good versus evil…the Dark Side versus the Light. But how does the newest poster in the Star Wars franchise stand up against the previous six films’ posters? Let’s take a walk down memory lane, starting with Episode I: The Phantom Menace, and see how each one ranks.

While Qui-Gon Jinn, little Anakin, and Queen Amidala are front and center here, the real star of this poster is Darth Maul…the literal Phantom Menace. His red coloring and black-outlined tattoos, along with the telltale yellow and red Sith eyes, made Maul an instant Star Wars icon. Too bad Darth Maul didn’t get a chance to use his double-bladed lightsaber on Jar Jar Binks, because then the prequels would have been saved…who am I kidding, fanboys/girls would still find something to complain about, regardless if Jar Jar’s head adorned Maul’s personal ship as a trophy, or not.
