50. Padme Dies Giving Birth to Luke and Leia
Film: Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
The Moment: After being taken away from Mustafar by Obi-Wan, Padme gives birth to Luke and Leia Skywalker. In the process though, she loses the will to live and dies. Her final words to Obi-Wan are that she still believes Anakin has good in him and that he’s not the monster he has become as Darth Vader.
Why It’s Memorable: It’s memorable for a couple of reasons — not all of which are positive. The main reason here is that it’s the bridge between the prequel films and the original trilogy as it’s the birth of Luke and Leia. But aside from that, fans are mixed in hindsight about Padme losing the will to live simply because Anakin as turned to the dark side. It’s a cheesy moment, but you’d be hard pressed to have the feels a little bit the first time we saw this in theaters.

There are a number of ways this could have been done differently, but we have to remember that George Lucas wrote and directed the moment so the fact we got any emotion at all out of it at all is amazing in of itself.
