28. Lando Rescues Leia and Chewbacca
Film: Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
The Moment: As Imperial officers escort Leia, Chewie and Threepio away on Cloud City, Lando steps in and rescues them. In rescuing the trio of rebels, Lando must issue the evacuation of his planet in an effort to save more lives and create the diversion needed to escape the empire’s clutches.
Why It’s Memorable: It’s the first time that we sort of trust Lando after meeting him. It wasn’t long after his introduction that he sold Han out to Darth Vader to seemingly save his own skin. It really appears in this moment of rescuing Leia and Chewie that Lando is making things up as he goes.

It wasn’t his plan from the start to go back on his word with the empire and Darth Vader, but it showed a lot about his character that he did. This is really the first time that we come around to liking Lando, and it’s one heck of an introduction to a main character. This wasn’t the highlight of Lando’s time in Star Wars but it was Lando’s true leap of faith with our main characters and his official initiation into the group.
