23. It’s A Trap
Film: Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
The Moment: Lando and Admiral Akbar lead the rebel forces to the mouth of the Death Star II above Endor, thinking that the shields have been taken out by Han on the planet below. Unbeknownst to them, the imperial forces have thwarted Han’s team and the shields are still up. After realizing this, they rebels take evasive action but it’s already too late as they’ve fallen into the empire’s trap.
Why It’s Memorable: It’s one of the most memorable lines in the Star Wars saga, as Admiral Ackbar exclaiming ‘it’s a trap’ has crossed over into our everyday conversation. Not only has it crossed over but so has the way he says it, as it’s something that we utter at least once a day in some way.
But as far s the moment itself is concerned, the trap closes on the rebels in a chilling way. It’s hard not to have the hairs on your arms raise when you hear this line uttered. It’s also a pretty intense moment of realization that this isn’t a plan that is going to go off accordingly, as the empire had the upper hand on the rebels one final time before its downfall.
