20. Jango Fett Gets Decapitated
Film: Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones
The Moment: With the Jedi attempting to turn the tide at the battle in the Geonosis execution theater, Jango Fett zeros in on Mace Windu. With all of his attempts thwarted, Jango attempts to gun Mace down, who casually deflects his laser blasts with his lightsaber before finishing the bounty hunter off by cutting his head off — with his son Boba watching in horror from above.
Why It’s Memorable: This is bittersweet in many ways. For starters, it’s the only time we see a Fett in the prequel trilogy, as Boba doesn’t make an appearance in Revenge of the Sith and the closest thing we get to seeing Jango is the clones who take their helmets off.
It’s another example of a badass character going out like a punk — which might actually help their long term appeal. We already loved Boba Fett from the original trilogy, so by association and familiarity we gravitated towards Jango. But like Darth Maul in the movie prior, there might have been more to this story but it was tied up way too soon. Even worse than Maul, the Fett storyline was completely abandon in the next film even though there was more the flesh out there than with the Sith Lord in Episode I.
