48. Boba Fett Follows Han and Leia to Cloud City
Film: Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
The Moment: After escaping the Asteroid Field and the literal belly of a beast, the Millennium Falcon still has to find a way to outrun an Imperial Star Cruiser without the ability to jump into hyperspace. Han Solo gets creative in his escape and flies right at the bridge of a Cruiser, attaching the Falcon to the garbage chute of the ship. As the Imperials dump their garbage as part of the process of jumping to hyperspace, Han detaches the Falcon and floats away with the garbage — and bounty hunter Boba Fett who had to same idea has our heroes.
Why It’s Memorable: There are a handful of moments where something as fantastical as Star Wars gets away with a plot device like Imperial garage dumping policies. But that’s part of what makes this moment so special — it’s so simple and not at all complex.
Are you in need of a Millennium Falcon model kit? Of course you are.
That’s something that makes Boba Fett figuring out the trick make sense, as it’s so obvious it’s the one thing the Imperials won’t think of. It also ties back to Attack of the Clones and where Boba learned the trick from the way Obi-Wan escaped in similar fashion.
