EA Star Wars has just released a teaser trailer for The Battle of Jakku, a battle that is now considered Star Wars canon and takes place some 29 years before the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which places the battle just a year after the Battle for Endor at the end of Return of the Jedi. Check it out.
From EA Star Wars:
"“Be among the first players to experience the Battle of Jakku*, the pivotal moment when the New Republic confronted key Imperial holdouts on a remote desert planet. Taking place in the aftermath of the Rebel victory in the Battle of Endor, players will experience the events that created the massive, battle-scarred landscape of Jakku shown in Star Wars™: The Force Awakens™.”"
Players who preorder Star Wars Battlefront will get to experience The Battle of Jakku on December 1st, 2015 — a full week early — and for all other game holders, December 7, will be the date you get to start playing the game’s first expansion. EA Star Wars has previously released artwork from the battle, and described some of the scenes:
DICE Concept Artist Anton Grandert had this to say:
"“There’s a David and Goliath theme to this. The epic, huge super structures of the Star Destroyers contrast against the tiny but brave Rebel soldiers fighting the Imperial forces. We wanted to portray a battle completely surrounding you, in every direction. Debris is falling from the sky, telling the story of battles above. On the surface of the planet you can see ground troops as well as X-wings, all taking part of the fight.”"
If that teaser trailer is any indication, then Grandert definitely hit his mark. The Star Destroyers crashing through Jakku’s atmosphere. along with the chaos of a ground assault between the remaining forces of the splintered Empire and the newly triumphant Rebel Alliance, is something that really serves to take your breath away, as you watch the video. Star Wars Battlefront is shaping up to be one monumental game, and it looks as if any fear that DICE/EA may flub this one, can now be put to bed.
Star Wars Battlefront hits shelves officially on November 17, but can be preordered now at the EA Star Wars site.
